Shir Appeal is an award-winning mixed-gender Jewish a cappella group from Tufts University. They have traveled from coast to coast, singing in a wide variety of languages and musical styles: Israeli pop and rock, traditional and liturgical songs, Jewish world music, and English songs with Jewish themes. Shir Appeal is proud to be the first non-secular and only Jewish group featured on the prestigious Voices Only and Best of Collegiate A Cappella (BOCA) compilation albums, and to be featured on every Best of Jewish A Cappella (BOJAC) album to date. "We were all captivated by the beautiful singing…they had us all singing along with them at certain times…it was awesome, and so inspiring to see a whole group of college kids so interested in Jewish music, and in sharing it all over the country!"

Rabbi Adam J. Raskin

Congregation Har Shalom

Potomac, MD

"Shir Appeal was AWESOME! I have received notes and e-mails from congregants telling me how wonderful your participation in services was this past Shabbat. Each member of Shir Appeal brought their own personality and energy and together you all created a beautiful blend of music, joy, and song to our congregation."

Cantor Marcie Jonas

Temple Beth Shalom

"As soon as the service was over congregants were already asking if they can come back again… What an outstanding and uplifting experience they provided!"

Rabbi Robert Silvers

Congregation B’nai Israel

"Thank you to all the Shir Appeal singers for your wonderfully moving and uplifting performance. I am so happy that this was your first church singing experience. We are ready to book for your next California tour!"

Reverend Stephen Glauz-Todrank

"You folks surpassed our expectations (which were already quite high). Your hard work and practice time really shows. And, I can assure you we REALLY enjoyed the performance. Thanks again!"

Rabbi Charlie Cohen

Congregation Tsemach Adonai

Los Gatos, CA

I just wanted to thank you for a wonderful performance here…The religious school students left inspired, excited, and most importantly, singing! As one teacher told me, the students were ‘mesmerized’. The workshop you held afterwards for a handful of our teens was equally impressive. You accomplished exactly what I had hoped – you gave them a song, some vocal and performance tips, and some real-life advice about being Jewish in college. Each member of your group is not just a vocal talent, but a real gem of a person. It was lovely getting to know you a little bit. I wish all of you much success in your years ahead – in Shir Appeal, at Tufts, and beyond!

"Thank you so much for performing a wonderful array of music for our seniors at Kosher Lunch today! It was wonderful to have the intergenerational mix and to schmooze with the seniors afterwards. You all rock!"

Samantha Young

JCC of the East Bay

Berkeley, CA

"It was wonderful – thank you for creating such a great energy! We’d love to have you back."

Rabbi Mychal Copeland

Hillel at Stanford

Palo Alto, CA.

"I want to share with you how much all of us enjoyed your performance here…We were inspired by your enthusiasm, creativity, and musicality. We found your harmonies delightful and were impressed by the young men who jumped up on the bimah. Unlike many of your performances, the majority of the individuals in the room were not Jewish – but they enjoyed the show just the same. The professor of choral music of Salisbury University was among those present in the audience as well as several members of the Christian and Jewish clergy. Best wishes for your continued success in sharing the joy of a cappella Jewish music to students and others."
